Why Should You Clean Your Dishwasher

You're probably thinking - my dishwasher runs cycles all day.  Why should I clean it when it cleans itself?  Unfortunately, this notion is false.  Dishwashers are meant to clean dishes, not the machine itself.  There are many parts to be considered and cleaned such as the grooves, filter, spray arm and more.

If you let grime and filth go unnoticed and uncleaned, you could get mold, your dishwasher could stop properly cleaning dishes and the machines pump could even get damaged.

So in short - it is important to clean your dishwasher!

How To Clean Dishwasher

  1. Wipe away visible grime / wipe down blades

The first step is to manually wipe away what you can and remove grime and bits of food.  Make sure you wipe down the spray arm and dishwasher seals with a rag and dish soap such as Dawn dish soap.

2. Remove and Rinse Out Filter

Many people don't know about the filter in your in your dishwasher.  It is generally found beneath the spray arm and needs to be twisted out.  By keeping your filter clean - you keep the entire dishwasher clean. Simply remove the filter and rinse out in your sink with water and perhaps a little dish soap.  Make sure you rinse the soap out really well so your dishwasher doesn't bubble up the next time you use it.

3. To clean out the rest of the dishwasher you can use a cleaning agent such as Affresh dishwasher cleaner (follow instructions on packet) or you can use white vinegar in a dishwasher safe bowl on the top rack of the dishwasher.  Get your vinegar all ready then run your dishwasher on the highest, hottest setting.  It will distribute the vinegar and clean your dishwasher naturally!

4.  Clean The Stainless Steel

Make sure you wipe down the stainless steel using a great stainless steel cleaner such as Affresh Stainless Steel cleaner using a microfiber cloth.  Spray the solution to the cloth then wipes down the steel in back and forth line motions to get an even clean.

How To Keep Dishwasher Clean

To keep your dishwasher clean simply repeat these steps often and make sure to manually remove grime when seeing it and wipe down the seals and spray arm. If you need to deodorize your dishwasher you can also sprinkle a little baking soda on the bottom of the machine and run on its hottest cycle.

Hopefully, these tips will turn you from a casual dishwasher user into a pro dishwashing cleaner!
