3 Easy Ways To Increase Your Home Security
Home security is an essential aspect of home life. Keeping your family and belongings secure should be a top priority. Thanks to our simple 3 steps below, we make doing home security easy!
Home Security: Get A Dog
This may be the best natural deterrent to a home invasion or theft. If a burglar hears a loud bark, they know it won't be worth the risk to get whatever may be inside the home.
KTVB did an investigation on home burglaries, asking inmates to respond anonymously to questions about burglarizing homes. This is what KTVB found about dogs in the home:
"If a homeowner had a big, loud dog most burglars would stay away. Smaller dogs don't seem to bother them.
“Dogs are a deal breaker for me,” said one inmate. “Big breeds, home protectors are the best to keep people out.”
If you don't want to get a dog, there are products on the market that are dog noise makers that you can program to go off at certain times, imitating the bark of a large dog.
Home Security: Get A Security System
This is home security 101. Having a security system is one of the best deterrents to crime. You don't need a big complicated system, either. There are companies such as Simpli Safe that have systems you can install on your own and don't require hard wiring. With this system for home security you can also choose to have the monthly plan that connects to dispatch, or simply use the alarm system in your home.
In the same article as above, KTVB asked the inmates what they would do if when trespassing in the home, a security alarm went off. This is what KTVB found:
"Most intruders said they would leave immediately if a security alarm went off.
“I would try and turn it off or get the hell out of there,” said one burglar."
Home Security: Use Common Sense When You're Away
Another free and easy way to increase your home security it to not make it obvious when you are away! Easy ways to do this are to:
- make sure someone picks up any packages that may come to your home so you don't have a pile advertising that no one is home
- place a free mail hold with the post office so that your mail doesn't pile up
- having your driveway snow shoveled in the winter by a neighbor or friend so it's not obvious you're away.
